Family
Shakira has a Colombian mother and a Lebanese father. That's why

writer and Shakira was deeply influenced by her father who had an Arabic
background. Shakira is currently engaged to Antonio de la Rua, son
of the present President of Argentina.
Early life
She was devoted to music since her childhood and every one could
find out her talent she possessed. Raised in her hometown, she began writing
songs during grade school and became a local celebrity in her pre-teen years .
Shakira wrote her first song at the age of 8. She won local and national talent
contests when she was 10.Shakira left her poverty-offended family at the young
age of 13 to become somebody.
How Started
Shakira moved to Botoga to become a model and instead signed a
contract with Sony music International. Her debut album Magia was released in
1991 when she was only 14, consisted entirely of self written songs. Her first
two albums were not well received and considered flopped. She also tried acting
and appeared in a Colombian show named El Oasis. She could't make it as an
actress and returned to music. After her return to music she recorded `Pies
Descalzos` in 1995 which became a great hit and sold almost four million copies
worldwide. This album put Shakira on the map.
