SHAKIRA BIOGRAPHY
Shakira was born on 9th of February 1977 at Barranquilla,
Colombia .Her full name is Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll . She is 5' 2" brown
eyed and brown hair beauty who holds the hearts and emotions of millions of fans
around the globe.Shakiran was born in a poor family. Her mother was Colombian
and her father was from Lebanon. Her father was a writer and she was greatly
inspired by her father. She was devoted to music since her childhood . She won
several singing contests and started writing songs during grade school when she
was only 8.
At the age of 13 she left her family and went to Botoga to
become a model but she signed a contract deal with Sony music International.At
the age of 14 her first music album ' Magia' was released that consisted of
songs entirely written by her in her childhood. Her first album gave her some
fame in Colombia and later on she was chosen to represent Colombia at the OTI
Fesival in Spain but she couldn't participate because at that time she was under
16.Therefore she recorded her second album named 'Peligro'.Her first two albums
could not gain much appreciation as expected so she took a break from music and
started concentrating her studies. She completed her graduation from high school
when she was 15 years old.After graduation she returned to music and recorded
her album 'Pies Descalzos' meaning ' bare feet' , sold more than three million
copies.The album featured her trademark sound, a blending of Latin, rock, and
Arabic musical styles. With in few months Shakira was an international figure.
'Pies Descalzos' was so liked by public that it sold more than 1 million copies
in Brazil alone. Shakira also recorded remixes for her Brazilian fans in
Portuguese. Her next record was Dónde Están Los Ladrones?
(1998)—which translates as "Where are the thieves?" which was a collection of
several hits.The success of her albums made Shakira a music superstar in the
spanish language markets.Shakira is now known for her strong vocals and
incredible hip shaking belly dance moves. Her next ambition is to capture the
English market. Shakira is the most outstanding singer/ songwriter in the whole
of Latin America and she has already captured the hearts and imagination of her
audiences. Besides her busy career, Shakira created the Pies Descalzos
Foundation to help children in her native Colombia in 1997.
